I’m the type that has to know WHY. If I don’t know WHY then the chance of something getting my time or attention is pretty slim. In elementary school I was always given a brand new planner on the first day of school. “This will keep you organized” was the promise. But alas… I think the only thing that planner accomplished was looking just as new on the last day of school as it did on the first.
So tell me why?! I mean it has been gently suggested my entire life that organization might be a good idea but WHY?!
Shoot. We could stop right here. Everyone deals with too much stress at some point. If being organized can help count me in!
Huh? More confidence? How? I had to think about this one for a while. How will being more organized improve my confidence? Well I guess I would spend less time second guessing myself…I would KNOW what I was doing, when it needed to be done, how I was going to do it, and where to find it! Sporting my “A” game through more days than not. Sounds nice, eh?
One common complaint is that being organized takes too much TIME! Now obviously how much time it takes depends on how crazy your organization habits are. But HEALTHY organization does create more time for you to spend on other things! How? Well your time is being spent specifically directed and more purposeful. Not wasted on unimportant, unintentional, or unplanned things. The result – More time for you to do whatever else you want!
Piggy backing off of MORE TIME > here we are at SPONTANEITY. Yes it’s true! The more organized you are the more willing you will be to jump on an opportunity when life throws you for a loop! Why? Because as we decided before – you will have more time! You are in control. You are on top of your life and your commitments. You can adjust and move things around as needed because you KNOW what’s going on and you can handle it!
I think this one just puts the punch in the bowl. So there you have it. GREATER PRODUCTIVITY. Do you want that in any area of your life? Well then get to it. Get organized! Dust off that planner you got for Christmas and put it to good use!
